My name is Sonya Elmer and I am an Ole Miss Alumni. I have always been a die hard Ole Miss fan and then I saw Tim play and I have been a Gator fan ever since. He is truly one of the best SEC players I have ever seen. I admire his faith in God and how he is not ashamed to wear his scriptures on his face and how he gives God the glory for it all. I wrote this poem to honor Tim's accomplishments on and off the field and the hateful comments I saw about his crying after the "BIG" game inspired this poem as well.
Tim Tebow---- Our Hero By Sonya Chatham Elmer Tim Tebow you are our hero. Heroes are hard to find in this day and time but sometimes there comes along someone with such great heart and soul that strives his very best to achieve all his goals. We are so glad U became a Gator. We are so glad you're not a hater. Bama wanted u but u declined; u became a Gator in the nick of time. You said, "This is the swamp where I belong; this is where I make my home. Together we will achieve great things that even u will not believe.Together we will soar up high and achieve greatness no one can deny." The first time we saw u play, we could not believe our eyes. U did something that wasn't ever known; by throwing a jump pass into the end zone! From that day on, we were sure that you would achieve anything and endure! You have accomplished things that some athletes only dream of ; broken records of legends that have held forever; so that's how we know u will be successful in any endeavor. People love to make fun of your faith; like saying u can turn water into wine and while laughing say u think u are divine. They also make fun of the scriptures on your face but we know these are the reasons God has blessed u with so much talent and grace that no one can erase. We were all so touched by "The Promise" u made to us that day that we didn't know what to say. It showed us who u were inside and made us want to cry.We have admired your leadership, dedication, and your deeds on and off the field. U are a true hero that deserves all the respect and love that you have always given here and in Heaven. When we saw your tears the other night, your fans cried with u. We wanted to give u a hug and tell u how much u are loved. We knew some people would laugh and make fun of u; they think tears are a sign of weakness; but we know that is not true. Showing emotion makes u more of a man than ANY of them will EVER understand! When u are a child of God, u are filled with so much love inside that it flows out in ways that we can't even contain. So, let them jeer, seethe, and stare for they are the lost ones. That is what happens when u are a soldier for Christ; that is our sacrifice. It shows our heart, soul, and humility which is pleasing to our Lord. When u spoke about the loss, u showed everyone that it's not about winning or losing; It's how u win and how u lose. U showed it with such class and sportmanship and we expected nothing less and ofcourse, you always end with "God Bless." U have a heisman and 2 championships and these u will always treasure but the most important rewards are yet to come from all the people that u have led to Christ young and old alike. So, we say goodbye to our hero wishing u well and look forward to seeing u play in the NFL. You will ALWAYS be close to our hearts even though we'll be miles apart. You know u will always be a Florida Gator, "our hero, our beast, and our superman." Thank u Tim for your witness. U have brought so many to Christ; more than u will ever know. Remember this: The greatest treasures are to come and they are not of this world! WE LOVE U! GOD BLESS!
I would love to get this poem put on a plaque so that I can personally give it to Tim. I hope that dream can come true.
